Hi, I’m Susan. I live, eat and drink most of my days away in Baltimore.
My first cookbook was a red Betty Crocker tome from the seventies, filled with over-hued pictures of ham and checkerboard sandwiches. I pieced things together along the way, from the backs of chocolate chip cookie bags to asking friends for recipes. I learned how to cook at various times and places: at my grandmother’s side as a child, at a twenty-four hour diner in my early twenties, and in a kitchen I absolutely detested (until very recently). It has taken a long time for me to get to a place where I feel absolutely at home in the kitchen making food for people I care about.
The best thing I ever ate was a soft shell crab sandwich my husband made for me, with a side of fried green tomatoes. The worst thing I ever ate were raw sea cucumbers. I’m here to write about everything in between.
